Setting Up a PDA & PDA Server

Note: Start with Setup Customer On-Line & PDE Software doc first

Also make sure PDA Server is logged on the same way as the Main Server

Copy folders from Tech CD

Copy the Palm folder from the Perfection Upgrade CD (Tech > Palm)
Paste into the root of the C:\ on PDA Server PC. Your resulting path should read C:\Palm.

Install the Desktop software

Close all applications
Start > Run > Browse > to C:\Palm\desktop sw v4.1 for windows\palmdesktop41eng.exe then click Ok
Next to accept default of C:\Downloads\Palm Desktop Setup Files
Next at Welcome screen
Read, and accept the agreement if you do, then Next
Leave default setting of Complete, then Next
Type in a user name. Use your Location name (LOC2) or Salesperson initials (LS) , then Next
Set to Serial Port, Com 1 (or whatever COM port that comes up), then, Next
Finish to finish the process

Install the PDE Software

Close all applications
Start > Run > Browse > to C:\Palm\PDE-ENT\PDE-Enterprise-Runtime.exe then click Ok
Yes to start the installation, then Next at the Welcome screen
Yes if you accept the Agreement, then Next at the Read Me screen
Leave Administrator as Name, type in Company name, and enter in Serial # (call Perfection for number) then Next
Next to accept default installation directory
Next to accept default folder of icons
Next to accept Current Settings
You may have to minimize the window to bring the Setup screen back up
Click No then Finish
Open Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\Marietta\PDE\RunTime and copy PDECustom.DLL to C:\Program Files\Palm
In Explorer, go to C:\Palm\PDE-ENT and copy PDEConfig.INI to C:\Program Files\Marietta\PDE

Create and Move icons

Move Palm Desktop icon to the left side of desktop
Start>Programs> right click on PDE Desktop > Create Shortcut. Move shortcut to right side of desktop
Double click on PDE Desktop, then click on File > Configure then select Short Filename – Application Code then click Ok. Click on File > Exit to close

Setup Local HotSync

Open Palm Desktop
At top, click on HotSync > Setup > click on Local tab > make sure that it is for Com1 for serial or Com3 (depending on what com port the cable attaches to) for USB then click ok
Then click on the HotSync icon (lower right hand side of the desktop) in startup tray and make sure that Local Serial or Local USB is checked (depending on how you are connecting)

Turn on the Palm OS device, make sure it is hooked up properly
Click on the HotSync then Local then click on down arrow (under the HotSync icon) and pick Cradle/Cable

Test HotSync

Install PDE software on Palm

Create and install the data file

Go back to the Setup Customer On-Line & PDE Software at Customers Site doc located on Perfection Upgrade CD (Tech > Palm > Support Docs)

Optional Setups:

Setup Network Modem HotSync for Remote Download

From the Desktop, right click on My Network Places then click Properties
Double click on Make New Connection
Click next at Welcome screen then Accept Incoming Connections, Next
Place a check by your modem, next then select Do Not Allow Virtual Private Connections, next
Check Administrator, next then click on TCP/IP then click on Properties
Check Allow Callers To Access My Local Area Network
Click Specify TCP/IP addresses and type in 10.1.1.100 for From and 10.1.1.110 for To
Check Allow Calling Computer To Specify Its Own IP Address and click OK then Next
Leave name as is and click Finish

Open Palm Desktop, click on HotSync>Setup then click on Network tab
Check your User Name
Then close Palm Desktop
On Task bar, right click on the HotSync icon (in lower right corner, next to clock).
Check Network

Open Palm OS device
Click HotSync icon then Modem
Click HotSync > Options >Modem Sync Prefs> click on Network, then click OK.
Click HotSync>Options>LANSync Prefs> click on Local HotSync, then click OK (might already be there that is fine)
Click HotSync>Options>Primary PC Setup> under Primary PC Address line, type in 10.1.1.100 then click OK
Click HotSync>Options>Conduit Setup> uncheck everything except for DataEntry and Hotsync then click OK
Click HotSync>Options>Connection Setup> click on Standard Modem then Edit… then Details… and make sure that Init String is ATZ then click OK, OK and Done
Below the HotSync icon, click on AT&T Worldnet then click Service, pick Windows RAS, then type in Administrator as User Name, then click on Prompt and type in the password, Connection will be Standard Modem then type in phone # PDA Server.
While still in the above screen, click on Details… and make sure that Connection type is set to PPP, IP Address is Automatic then click OK then Done on the next screen.

Test HotSync

Setup Network HotSync from another PC on Network

Place the Perfection CD into the PC that you want to HotSync from Properties
Close all applications
Start > Run > Browse > to C:\Tech\Palm\desktop sw v4.1 for windows\palmdesktop41eng.exe then click Ok
Next to accept default of C:\Downloads\Palm Desktop Setup Files
Next at Welcome screen
Read, and accept the agreement if you do, then Next
Select Custom, then Next
Click on the down arrow next to Palm Desktop and select This Feature will not be available.
An X will appear next to Palm Desktop then Next
Type in a user name. Use REMOTE , then Next
Set to Serial Port, Com 1 (or whatever COM you are connecting to), then, Next
Click Install then Finish
The HotSync icon will appear at the bottom right hand corner of your screen, click on it and click on Network and make sure that Local USB and Local Serial are checked
Open Palm OS device and click on HotSync icon
Click HotSync > Options > LANSync Prefs > click on LANSync, then click OK (might already be there that is fine)
Click HotSync>Options>Primary PC Setup> under Primary PC Name line, type in Name of PDA Server then under Primary PC Address line, type in the IP Address of PDA Server then under Subnet Mask line, type in Subnet Mask (optional) then click OK
Attach the Palm OS device to the network PC and create an order then HotSync

Setup Network Hot Sync through the Internet

Follow the above procedure except when setting up the Primary PC Name on the PDA do the following.

Click HotSync>Options>Primary PC Setup> under Primary PC Name line, type in two exclamation points (!!) instead of the computer name, type in the IP Address of PDA Server (static IP) then under Subnet Mask line, type in Subnet Mask (optional) then click OK
