How To Setup Security
Previous Topic  Next Topic

**This document is for Owners and Managers Only**

  1. 10.3 is where Security is set for the system.  It already has passworded protection on it, but all owners will want to customize this for their store.

  1. 10.3.1 allows the user to assign terminal logon passwords.  Each port is represented by the number of the port.  If you want to enter a password so that when someone logs onto the port they would have to enter this (which is a good idea if you have people dialing in on a modem connection from home) this would be the place to do it.

  1. 10.3.2 “Menu Passwords, and Change Terminal Menu Access” is where you can enter passwords for the menu items, and create custom menus for individual ports by removing options.

  1. In 10.3.2 it seems as though you may be looking at the main menu.  But it says, “M A I N   M E N U M A I N T E N A N C E.”  This is the security menu.  At the bottom of the screen you have the following options:

  1. Enter <TCL> to enter Password to TCL.  – this will allow you to place a password on entrance from the main menu to TCL which is like going to DOS while in Windows.  Various behind the scene tasks are operating here which may need to be passworded.

  1. Enter <M> to enter Master Password – This is where you enter a Master Password which overrides any password in the system.  In case you have multiple passwords on the menu for different users, you as the owner or manager may want to have a master password to remember instead of multiple passwords.

  1. Enter <PR> to enter Password to Printer Control Menu – If you do not want employees using the Printer Control Menu to kill print jobs, you can password that by entering a password here.

  1. Enter <P> to enter Passwords for this menu – this gives you a screen which allows you to place a password on the menu item on each line.  You can password on, two, five or all of them if you like with different passwords.  If you want to password something inside the Point of Sale menu, simply hit that menu option first and ENTER before typing the <P> to enter the Password.  For instance, say I wanted to password Point of Sale Reports.  I would go to 10.3.2 and then I would hit the number 1 and ENTER.   I would then hit the letter <P> and ENTER.   I will then have a new screen for the passwords inside that menu.

  1. Enter <C> to Change Menu Selections by port – here you change the way a port displays its menu options.  Say you wanted port 5 (a counter terminal) to have Point of Sale and Inventory, but none of the other options.  You would hit “C” and ENTER and then give the port number “5” and hit ENTER.  Then you would see the cursor blinking next to #1.  Each of the option on the screen will have a “Y” for YES and an “N” for NO next to them.  If it says “Y” then they have the menu option.  Id it says “N” they do not have the menu option on their screen.  After you make changes and save it, they will have to refresh their screen by going into an option or hitting Escape (ESC) for the changes to take affect.

  1. Enter <CP> to copy to other ports – this will let you copy one port’s configuration to another, or multiple ports.  It will ask you to enter the port to copy from and then the subsequent ports to copy to.

  1. Enter <L> to enter Location Passwords by port – this allows you to enter passwords for ports by location.  Each location may have different passwords this way.
