Sel-Restoring Files in TCL

  1. From the Main Menu type TCL and hit ENTER.

  1. Have the customer place the backup tape to be used in the drive.

  1. At the colon, type in T-SELECT and hit ENTER.   Choose the proper tape drive.

  1. Type in T-REW and hit ENTER.

  1. Type in SEL-RESTORE XXXXXXX OOOOOOO (IS.  (The Xs are the file name, which in this case we will say it is FORM.PGM*, and the Os are the item name, in this case IP.MCC* which is an invoice print program name. So it would look like this, SEL-RESTORE FORM.PGM IP.MCC and hit ENTER. )  (The IS on the end of the command will not show the items on the screen so that it goes faster over the modem.)  If the file does not have an item, then it would look like this: SEL-RESTORE XXXXXXX (IS  You may also need to use a (O to overwrite the existing file if needed.  Also, do not use the (IS if it is one item that you are restoring.

  1. It will then ask you, “Restore from F)ull/Account, I)ncremental or T)ransaction log (f/i/t):” and you hit “F” for full account.

  1. It will then ask you, “ACCOUNT NAME ON TAPE:” This may vary, but usually for an invoice print program it is PM.PROGRAMS* and hit ENTER.

  1. It will then ask you, “file name:” and you will enter the file name to restore. In this case it was FORM.PGM* and hit ENTER.  It will then restore your item(s).  NOTE: the file name may be left blank if it is the MD.  It knows that a blank there is the MD. (This would be helpful in restoring the user-coldstart.)

  1. It will then ask you two questions: “Restore from incremental save tape (y/n)?” and “Restore from transaction log tape (y/n)?”, answer “N” for NO to both and hit ENTER.

  1. It should then say, “1 item(s) have been restored.”

  1. Be sure to compile the program if it is in a program.  (Example: COMPILE FORM.PGM IP.MCC* and hit ENTER.)

  1. Should be finished here.

*Things in italics are not necessarily what you may use- they are examples.
