Resizing Files

  1. First, make sure you have enough disk space for resizing.  The resize process will back up the data first, then delete and resize the file.  To do this, from TCL type:

FREE <enter>        Write down the number under the column "Frames" in the row "Available Disk Space".

  1. Check to see how big to make the new file size.  To do this, type:

ISTAT filename (RS <enter>

Compare the number next to "Modulo" to the number under "Suggested Modulo".  If the number for Frames is much larger (10% or more) than the Modulo, the file needs to be resized.  If you are doing this to clean up the file either for corruption or file-save problems, you need to resize the file in any case.  Write down the number under "Frames".  If there is not at least 1000 frames more from step #1 than from step #2, you will need to take further action prior to resizing the file.  See :F ILES document for more information.

  1. Use the following table to approximate the new file size:

Step 2 Suggested

  1. Resize the file.  This process may take several minutes, and possibly hours, depending on the size of the file.  After pressing Y <enter> to the "Backup Data" question, you may press enter 3 times in succession to avoid having to wait for the process to complete.  Type:

       PM.RESIZE <Enter>

       filename <Enter>

Enter New Modulo: New file size from step 3

Backup Data: Y <enter> <= (If you fail to enter 'Y' at this prompt, You will LOSE ALL DATA in the file!)

Once back to the TCL prompt (:), you are finished.  Type M <Enter> to get back to the Main Menu.
