to RF600VPN Setup Checklist
This document explains the setup a RF550VPN connected as a remote client to a RF600VPN. This document works for static or dynamic IP addresses.
This will require one copy of this document for each of the RF550’s at each remote location.

NOTE: This document reflects a procedural change effective 10/07/2002
(all Windows XP Pro machines)
to use a password of perf on the Administrator account.
Machines built before 10/07/2002
(Windows 2000 Pro and NT/4 machines) had no password on the Administrator account.
Connect devices
- Connect the WAN port on VPN device to the Cable or DSL modem. This is the incoming signal
- (Optional) Connect the Serial port on the VPN device to the Dial-Up or ISDN modem
- The four LAN ports can be connected either:Straight to the PC’sOr to a hub/switch which then feeds to the PC’s
- Connect the 5VD port to the power supplyConfigure Windows NT-4 PCStart > Settings > Control PanelDouble click Network iconAt top of Network dialog box, click Protocols tabSelect TCP/IP Protocol associated with your NICClick BindingsIn Bindings dialog box, find Show Bindings For box. Ping device
AT a PC, Start > Run > cmd to open a prompt. IPCONFIG at the prompt to ensure you are on the same network
Configure RouteFinder At a PC, open a web browser with an address of: http://192.168.2.1. This is the default address of the RouteFinderAt Enter Network Password window, enter a user name of admin with a blank password (we will change password later). Click OK On Main Menu, click Setup Wizard button at top of screen. The button will turn blue to indicate screen is active.

For loc2, use 192.168.3.1
For loc3, use 192.168.4.1, etc.

ISP Settings
- There are 5 settings to choose from here:
- Connect to Cable ISP - This choice is selected for Cable. It should also be selected for a dial-up or ISDN modem
- Static IP Settings – This choice should be selected for a location that has a static IP address

- PPoE Settings – This choice should be selected for a location using PPoE. PPoE is a common protocol used with DSL

- PPTP Settings – This setting is not recommended. The RF550VPN has limited functionality using PPTP. The RF550VPN can only pass through one message at a time, and it cannot serve as the host. For PPTP, the RF560VPN, RF600VPN, or RF600VPN is the preferred choice.
- Telstra Settings – This choice Is undefined at this time

- Click Save & Restart. Device will restart and system messages will confirm configuration of device and saved settings. Wait until device stops blinking and Home Page is reloaded.
Check Device Status
- At Main Menu, click on Device Status. The line between RouteFinder and Cable/xDSL Modem should be solid. A broke line indicates a problem. This screen will auto-refresh every 20 seconds or so.
Setup Advanced Settings
- From Main Menu, click Advanced Settings
- Change the IP Address Pool Range to 20 to 100
- Click Virtual Server and add Port Range Settings (if dynamic, ext IP is 0.0.0.0). Setup range for Telnet then VNC (5800, 5900) and etc.
- Click ADD and it should appear on the bottom
- Then click on submit
- Then Save & Restart
Run System Diagnostics
- From Main Menu, click System Tools
- Click System Diagnostics from left side to perform a checkup
- Review settings
- To exit, select another option from left of screen
Logout
- Click Logout on left side of screen to logout
Load Default Settings
NOTE: This section is included for reference only
- From Main Menu, click System Tools > Load Default Settings > Start
- This will load default settings and overwrite all previous settings
Reset Device
NOTE: This section is included for reference only! All settings will be reset to factory defaults and password will be set to blank
- If you are sure you want to reset all configurations, hold reset button in until serial LED’s of device blink. (this should be for at least 3 seconds) Then release reset button.
