How to Set Up POS Display Bar

Before you get started make sure you do not have the display plugged into the PC.  Also make you check which operating system you working on because the setup is a little different for each one.


  1. Place the CD in the PC and explorer over to CD to

         \USB Driver\Windows\Setup.exe


  1. Double click the EXE file and select the Virtual Com Port Driver and click Install.


  1. Once install is complete, plug in the USB connection and you should see Windows load the new device.


  1. If the New Hardware Found Wizard message box appears (usually on XP), click "No, not this time" radio button and select "Install the software automatically" and click <Next>.  The device should install on its own and click <Finish> when done.


  1. Go to Device Manager (right click My Computer and click on Manage) and check to see if the display bar appears under Ports (COM & LPT). 


      * If the COM Port number is 2, 3 or 4 then go to step 9.


  1. If COM port is 5 or above then Right click on LCI USB Line Display and select <Properties> then click on <Port Settings> tab, and click <Advanced>.


  1. Click on COM port number box to select a used port between 2 to 4 from the list and click <OK> to accept new settings.


  1. Unplug the USB cable from the PC for a few seconds and then plug it back into the USB port.  Device Manager should show the changed port number.


  1. Next record the COM Port# in device manager and open a Command Prompt window (click <Start> then <Run> and type CMD in the Open box and click <OK>).


  1. To test the Display Bar type:

         ECHO  TEST IT  >  COMX  <enter>         (X = your COM port#)


  1. The word “TEST IT” will appear on the Display Bar confirming that communication is good to the bar.


  1. Next go to Printers and Faxes and a create Window printer to the COM port and name it POS DISPLAY BAR.  Use the drivers for GENERIC TEXT ONLY and do not share it.


  1. Then open up an Accuterm session on that PC and go to 1.10 and type in the Port# <ENTER> and type in SL to get the Slave Printer Setup.  You will need to fill in the System Ptr and POS Customer Display Ptr, once you are in the field you can do <?> to see a list of printers on this PC.


  1. Once these setting are saved, you are ready to go and start billing out customers.
