5.1.8.1 Bar Code Entry
Previous Topic  Next Topic

If you utilize Bar Coding, you will need to enter the Bar Code numbers assigned to all the Part Number Units of Measure. Bar Code numbers can be used in place of Part Numbers throughout the entire system.

You may enter the Bar Code numbers using the Bar Code reader or by manually entering the numbers.

The Bar Code is the 11-digit UPC Bar Code. If any other length Bar Code number is entered, it will be treated as a Code 39 or 93 (for PCL5+ printers) Bar Code when printed.

The most accurate and easiest way to enter Bar Code numbers is to use the Bar Code Reader. Wave the Bar Code Reader over the bar code. The bar code will be displayed on the screen and automatically go to the next Unit of Measure, if applicable. Once finished with the Units of Measure, the cursor will be at the "Part #" prompt to add another Part Number.

You are allowed to enter multiple bar codes for each Part Number Unit of Measure. This can also be used to create quick codes for Part Number Units of Measure.

If you have multiple Bar Codes, then you can move a Bar Code to the Primary or First position without having to retype it. The Primary Bar Code will be the only Bar Code to print on Labels and Reports.

If you do not have a Bar Code Reader you may still take advantage of the ease of bar code numbers. Manually type in the bar code numbers for the Unit of Measure and press <ENTER>.

There are three additional columns, Case Flag/Case Qty, and Is BC, that will allow you to identify particular bar code(s) as Case-type bar codes, along with the quantity included in the case and whether the bar code is indeed a real bar code. These fields will affect the quantity scanned in "POS Order Entry" (1.1) and "Receiving Scan Entry" (4.1.5). If the Case Bar Code flag is set to <Y>, and Case Qty is left blank, then the Standard Pack will be used for the Case Qty.

3. 98765

In the simplified example above, if bar code "987" is scanned, the standard pack setup for Unit "CAN" will be used for the Scan Qty. Scanning "9876" will add 10 to the Scan Qty, and "98765" will add 100 to the Scan Qty. This will allow for the use of Case and Pallet Bar Codes, requiring only one scan to sell or receive a large qty of items.

The Is BC flag is only used in WMS and the Bar Code print programs at this time for determining if a part has a real bar code as opposed to a quick code entered for part.
