10.3.2 Menu Passwords, and Change Terminal Menu Access
Previous Topic  Next Topic

This section is used to password protect menu selections. You may also protect going into TCL (Terminal Control Language) and the Printer Control menu. A Master Password may be added that will work at all password prompts. When using the <L> option, you have the ability to put a password on any report for a specific port number to prevent anyone from printing information for locations other than their own.

You may delete a password. At the first character of the Password, press the <CONTROL> key and the <C> (at the same time).

Remember that a SPACE is a character. If you try to delete by pressing the <SPACE BAR>, you are really entering SPACES as a Password. Passwords are “case sensitive”. You must type the password exactly as entered (example:  if the password is LOCK, then it must be entered in all capitals, Lock or lock will not work).

Menu Passwords

You may password any menu or submenu. Enter <P> and press <ENTER> to enter the Password for the menu listed. Go to the Selection Number of the menu item to password, and press <ENTER>. You may use the <UP ARROW> or <DOWN ARROW> keys to scroll to the item requested. Enter the Password, and press <ENTER>.

To enhance security, there are two additional options:  <U> to Change Menu Selections by User Code, and <CU> to copy to other Users. This allows security to be setup by Pick/D3 logon codes. Port security will still apply if there is no User Code security entered.

Multiple Passwords are allowed for the Menu Passwords. The passwords are entered on the same line separated by a pipe (|) character. This character is usually found above the backslash (\) key. Do a <SHIFT><\> to access it. Example: PASS1|PASS2|PASS3|PASS4. Any of the four passwords may then be used at the Menu selection.

This feature is very useful for maintaining separate passwords for different menu selections. You may want to maintain separate passwords to allow certain people access to the same menu selections but not other menu selections. For example:  Lets say you put PASS1 on AR, INVENTORY and AP menus. Then you put PASS2 on INVENTORY, AP, and SYSTEM MANAGEMENT menus. So anyone with PASS1 can access AR, INVENTORY, and AP but not SYSTEM MANAGEMENT. And, anyone with PASS2 can access INVENTORY, AP, and SYSTEM MANAGEMENT but not AR. Different levels of passwords may be setup without having to setup a different password for each menu selection.

To copy the Menu Selections by Port Number to another port or a range of ports, enter <CP> and press <ENTER>.
