Common Terms

There are some terms that will be used throughout the help sections. Below is a list of Common Terms with definitions.


CPU - CPU stands for "Central Processing Unit". This is often referred to as the computer. This is the actual "brains" of the system. The peripherals are connected to the CPU.


Cursor - The small box or line on the screen that denotes where information is entered.


Default - Information already entered at the prompt or pre-set in the program.


Enter - Used in place of the word "type". Not to be confused with the <ENTER> key.


Field - The area where information is to be entered.


Logon - Initial prompt to start the program.


Main Menu - The list of modules available.


Menu - The list of options available within the program. Often thought of as the "Table of Contents" of programs.


Peripheral - Device attached to the CPU. Peripherals include: monitors,  printers, and modems.


Prompt - A statement or question that instructs and requires action by the user.


Selection Number - The number before an item in a list.
