When creating a new POS Alert, Location and Unit of Measure are not required fields.  Leave these fields blank to have an alert appear at all locations and for all units of measure.  In fact, multiple unique alerts can be setup for the same part number.

Example: One alert message can be setup for all locations, and then additional specific messages for individual locations can be setup. Multiple alert messages would be combined when displayed at point of sale.

Start Date and End Date are not required fields, but are useful for setting up a special temporary sale on items.

Substitute Part and Unit are not required fields.  The user would select the desired part to sell instead of the part for which the alert is being created.  The substitute part would normally be an overstocked or dead stock item.  If a substitute part and unit are entered, the counterperson will have the option of selecting the substitute when the alert is displayed.  This part would then replace the original part entered on the order.

The Alert Message is simply free-form text to be displayed at Point of Sale.

This field is only required when the Substitute Part and Unit has not been specified.

When <S>aving an Alert created for a specific location, the user will be prompted to also create (copy) alerts to a list of locations or a particular Region.

Important note: On Alerts that contain a Substitute Part Number and Unit; they will only be displayed at locations that contain positive QOH for the Substitute item. The idea is to create alerts for popular part numbers that direct the counterperson to try to eliminate dead stock (the Substitute). Once a location is sold out of the dead QOH, the alert will no longer appear at that location.
